Best Summer Photo Locations in Colorado Springs
Summer is one of the best times for photo sessions in Colorado Springs. The weather is warm, the landscape turns lush and green, and everything feels more vibrant. If you’re searching for the best summer photo locations in Colorado Springs, there are so many to choose from that it can feel a little overwhelming.
During the summer, the sun sets more toward the north side of town. This changes how certain locations look and allows us to use spots that don’t work as well during other seasons. One of the best parts of summer is the longer days. Because of that, we get an extended golden hour, which gives us more time to shoot in soft, beautiful light. I love summer photo sessions because of this extra long golden hour and vibrant landscapes.
Below are some of my go-to summer locations that photograph especially well this time of year:
Garden of the Gods (Iconic Red Rock Views)
If you’ve followed me for a while, you already know how much I love Garden of the Gods. It’s one of the most unique and recognizable summer photo locations in Colorado Springs.
The red rock formations create a bold backdrop, and in the summer, the light wraps around them in a really beautiful way. I especially love how this meadow location photographs in the summer! This location works well for families who are up for a little exploring and want that classic Colorado look.
North Cheyenne Canon (Soft Light and Mountain Views)
North Cheyenne Canon is one of my favorite mountain meadow locations, especially in the summer.
During this time of year, the sun sets right behind the mountains, which gives us beautiful light throughout your session. The open space also makes it perfect for kids. They can run, play, and explore, which leads to more candid and natural photos.
If you love a relaxed, playful feel, this is one of the best summer photo locations in Colorado Springs.
Palmer Park (Wide open views of Pikes peak)
Palmer Park is another favorite, especially when everything turns green in the summer.
This location offers wide-open views of Pikes Peak and sometimes even sunflowers later in the season. Because it sits farther away from the mountains, the sun drops lower across the landscape, which creates beautiful, glowing light during that extended golden hour.
It’s also one of the more accessible summer photo locations in Colorado Springs, which makes it a great option for many families. It is stroller friendly and doesnt require a super long walk from parking!
Which Summer Photo Location Is Right for Your Family?
All three of these locations are beautiful, fun, and offer something a little different. Choosing the right one really comes down to your family and what kind of experience you want.
Palmer Park is a great option if you have younger kids or need easy access. It works well if you’re bringing a stroller or want minimal walking.
Garden of the Gods is a better fit for older kids who enjoy climbing and exploring, especially the rocky locations!
North Cheyenne Canon works really well for preschool through elementary ages. There is a short walk to the location, including a brief steep uphill section. However, once you reach the meadow, it’s open and safe for kids to run around. This is where we often capture some of the most natural moments.

During the summer, the landscape is already colorful and full of texture. Because of that, I recommend sticking with neutral tones and soft colors. These balance the background and keep the focus on your family.

The biggest tip I give is to keep things simple. Show up, relax, and let your kids be themselves. The more relaxed everyone feels, the better your photos will turn out.
Its also a good idea to bring along water for your photo sessions. Summer can be hot and kits often get thirsty from all the running around!
What to Expect During a Summer Photo Session
Summer sessions take place later in the evening since sunset is later this time of year. Most sessions start around the 7:00pm hour.
This can feel late for younger kids, so it’s something to keep in mind when scheduling. That said, the lighting at this time is worth it and helps create that soft, glowing look.
