Hoosier Pass Family Photos in Breckenridge (A Hidden Gem for Summer Sessions)

The Hoosier Pass is one of the most beautiful locations for family photos in Breckenridge. The high alpine views, tall pine trees, and soft golden light at sunset make it feel truly special.

If you’re looking for a location that feels a little more elevated and scenic, Hoosier Pass is a unique setting that’s hard to match.

Why Hoosier Pass Is One of the Best Places for Family Photos Near Breckenridge

Hoosier Pass is one of my favorite locations because it works well for both short and full sessions.

There are incredible views right next to the parking area, which makes it perfect for short sessions. We can step out and immediately have a beautiful backdrop.

For full sessions, we can explore nearby trails and take a more adventurous approach. This allows for more variety and a more relaxed pace.

It’s also very accessible. The location sits right off Highway 9 and is only about 20 minutes from Breckenridge, which makes it an easy drive.

A Personal Look at Hoosier Pass Family Photos with My Own Kids

I took these photos of my own kids last summer while I was scouting locations. It was one of those evenings where everything came together—the light, the weather, and the setting.

It also gave me a chance to experience the location the same way my clients do, which is always helpful when planning sessions.

What to Expect During a Hoosier Pass Family Photo Session

Hoosier Pass family photo sessions in Breckenridge are a bit more adventurous than sessions closer to town.

You’ll drive along mountain roads that can be steep and winding. Once we arrive, most spots are easy to access, but there will be some hiking required if you choose a full session.

Even in the summer, temperatures can drop quickly in the evening. Because of that, it’s important to come prepared with layers so everyone stays comfortable.

Best Time of Day for Hoosier Pass Photos

All sessions take place during golden hour, usually about an hour before sunset.

This is when the light is soft, warm, and most flattering. It also adds depth and dimension to the mountain views, which makes a big difference in your final images.

What to Wear for Mountain Photos

Outfits can really enhance the overall look of your photos.

Neutral tones work especially well against the mountain landscape and help keep the focus on your family. You can also add a few subtle pops of color, like soft blues or muted jewel tones, for a little variety.

Layers are the most important part of planning outfits for mountain sessions. Even in the summer, temperatures can quickly dip into the 60’s. For kids, I recommend bringing sweaters and tights just in case.
