Things to Do with Kids in Colorado Springs (Local Guide)

If you’re looking for things to do with kids in Colorado Springs, you have so many great options. After living here for 13 years and raising my kids here, I’ve found some great spots that we come back to again and again.

Today I’m sharing some of my family’s favorite things to do around Colorado Springs. These are the same places we visit regularly and the ones we take friends and family when they come into town.

Garden of the Gods (Easy Trails + Iconic Views)

One of the most popular things to do with kids in Colorado Springs is visiting Garden of the Gods—and it’s easy to see why. The red rock formations are stunning, and the trails are very family-friendly. It’s also a great educational experience for kids. You can learn how the red rocks formed and often spot wildlife like mule deer and even big horn sheep along the trails. I highly recommend stopping by the visitor center before or after your hike. It’s a great way to add a little learning to your visit!

We love bringing visitors here and exploring it ourselves. My kids especially love the Siamese Twins hike. It’s short, manageable, and has a great view of Pikes Peak.

I also spend many evenings here photographing families, and it never disappoints. The mix of easy access and incredible views makes it a go-to spot.

Driving to the Top of Pikes Peak (A Unique Colorado Experience)

This is one of our absolute favorite things to do when we have visitors in town.

Driving to the top of Pikes Peak feels like a full experience, not just a destination. Along the way, we like to stop at Crystal Creek Reservoir for fishing or kayaking. It’s a great way to break up the drive and let kids move around.

The new visitor center at the summit is beautiful and makes the whole experience even better. This is a great option for kids of all ages and one of the most memorable things to do with kids in Colorado Springs.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (One of the Best Zoos in the country)

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has been a favorite for our family since my kids were little. It’s built right into the side of the mountain, which makes it feel different from most zoos.

One of the best parts is how close you can get to the animals. Kids love the hands-on experience, especially feeding the giraffes.

Your admission also includes access to the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun. We recently visited, and it was such a fun add-on with amazing views.

U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum (Interactive and Fun for Kids)

This is a great option if you’re looking for indoor things to do with kids in Colorado Springs.

My kids love the interactive exhibits at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum, and there’s plenty to keep them engaged. It’s especially fun for elementary-aged kids and older.

I personally love seeing the Olympic torches and medals from past games. Since it’s located downtown, it’s easy to plan lunch or dinner nearby after your visit.

Seven Falls (Short Adventure with a Big Payoff)

We didn’t visit Seven Falls until recently, and I wish we had gone sooner.

The main highlight is climbing the steps alongside the waterfall. It’s a fun challenge for kids and feels like a little adventure. At the top, you’ll find additional trails if you want to keep exploring.

The canyon itself is beautiful and makes the whole experience feel a bit more unique. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to take a shuttle, as there is no on-site parking.

Royal Gorge Train Ride (Easy and Scenic Family Experience)

While this isn’t technically in Colorado Springs, it’s absolutely worth the drive.

The Royal Gorge train ride is fun for both kids and adults. One of the best parts is walking to the open-air car to take in the views. It gives you a completely different perspective!

If you’re planning a longer stay, this is a great add-on to your list of things to do with kids in Colorado Springs.

Manitou Springs (Walkable, Fun, and Kid-Friendly)

Manitou Springs is such a unique little town and definitely worth adding to your list of things to do with kids in Colorado Springs. It has a fun, laid-back feel with local shops, historic buildings, and lots to explore in a small, walkable area. Adams Mountain Cafe is a local favorite and a great spot to stop for a meal while you’re there.

You can spend time browsing shops, grabbing lunch, and letting kids play at the penny arcade, which is always a hit. It’s full of old-school games and easy entertainment that keeps kids engaged without a lot of planning.

If you have older kids, hiking the Manitou Incline can be a fun challenge. It’s definitely a workout, but many families with older kids enjoy doing it together and making it to the top.

Best Time of Year to Visit Colorado Springs with Kids

Summer is my favorite time of year in Colorado Springs, with fall being a close second.

From June through September, the weather is warm, the landscapes are green, and most activities are fully accessible. Fall also offers beautiful colors and slightly cooler temperatures, which can be perfect for outdoor exploring.

Make It Even More Memorable (Add a Photo Session)

Many families choose to schedule a photo session while visiting Colorado Springs, and it’s such a fun way to remember your trip.

Whether you’re exploring red rocks or mountain views, it’s the perfect opportunity to capture your family in a meaningful way while on vacation.
