The Most Fun Family Friendly Hikes in Colorado Springs

Child approaching the start of Seven Bridges Trail, a scenic family friendly hike in Colorado Springs

I’ve been hiking with my kids in Colorado Springs since my oldest was just learning how to walk. Over the years, we’ve explored dozens of trails- some that were more fun than others. Today, I’m sharing our very favorite family friendly hikes in Colorado Springs. These trails range from short and stroller-friendly to slightly challenging and totally worth the views. If you’re hiking with toddlers or adventuring with older kids, there’s something here for every age and stage.

Family Friendly Hikes in Colorado Springs That Kids Will Actually Enjoy

Let’s start with the trails that get the biggest thumbs-up from my own kids!

Seven Bridges Trail

This one’s an absolute classic. It’s about 3 miles round trip and includes seven bridges. My son has been hiking this trail since he was two. While it’s best suited for kids five and up due to the length, the shaded path and creek access make it a must-do. Pro tip: kids love counting the bridges as you go!

Siamese Twins Trail

Located in Garden of the Gods, this 1-mile loop takes you to a unique rock formation. It’s easy, fun, and has plenty of places for climbing and playing. If you want a slightly longer hike you can add on the Cabin Canyon trail. Its no secret that Garden of the Gods is one of my favorite places for photo session, but I also love exploring it with my kids.

Stratton Open Space to the Reservoir

Roughly 2 miles round trip, this trail ends at a small reservoir that’s become a favorite for off-leash dogs. It’s a fun and scenic hike—just keep in mind the off leash dogs if your kids don’t love dogs.

Family-Friendly Trails With Water Features or Shade

Lower Columbine Trail

Perfect for toddlers and little hikers, this trail runs alongside a creek with plenty of water play opportunities. You can hike as far as your crew feels up for, then turn around. The shade and gentle path make it great on warmer days. This hike starts at the Starsmore Discovery Center, which is really fun to check out before or after your hike. Just keep in mind that there is often poison ivy here during the summer months.

Silver Cascade Falls

Starting at Helen Hunt Falls, this short but steep hike leads to stunning views. There are quite a few stairs, so it’s better for confident walkers. You can splash in the water just below Helen Hunt Falls at the bottom before or after your hike, though the trail itself doesn’t offer creek access.

Short But Adventurous Trails for Little Explorers

Sometimes short hikes are all you need—especially with little legs. These trails pack a fun punch without wearing everyone out.

Zook Loop at Cheyenne Mountain State Park

A solid 2-mile loop with easy terrain, this trail is a great option when you want a scenic hike that won’t take all day.

Mt. Cutler

This trail is short but does climb steadily. It’s best for adventurous kids who love a challenge and want to make it to the top of a mountain. The views at the top are so rewarding!

Red Rock Canyon Quarry Trail

Red Rock Open Space is full of fun trails, but the quarry loop is especially kid-friendly. It offers a mix of views and rocks to climb.

Stroller-Friendly Trails in Colorado Springs

If you’ve got a kiddo who still rides, here are a few smoother trails perfect for a stroller (ideally a jogging-style one).

Palmer Park – Mesa and Yucca Trail

This trail offers nice views and a bit of a workout. The terrain is doable with a stroller, though some hills and loose gravel sections are trickier. Be mindful of off-leash dogs in this area and avoid leaving valuables in the car here.

East Bear Creek Park

A shady, loop near a creek with access to a playground—what more could you ask for? This spot is ideal for warm days and slow strolls.

Garden of the Gods Central Garden

Stick to the paved paths near the main parking lot for the most accessible experience. It’s a popular spot for a reason—those views are hard to beat. If the parking lot is full you can also start at the visitor center!

Fountain Creek Nature Center

This hidden gem has wide, flat trails that loop around ponds, creeks, and wetlands. It’s fully stroller friendly and offers tons of wildlife spotting opportunities—think ducks, frogs, and even the occasional heron. There’s also a small nature center with exhibits for kids. It’s a great spot to get out and explore with little ones.

Worth-the-Drive Family Hikes Near Colorado Springs

Some of the best family friendly hikes near Colorado Springs are just a short drive. These trails offer a little extra adventure, stunning views, and a great way to spend a weekend day together as a family.

The Crags Trail

Located near Divide, this 4.8-mile round-trip hike is full of magic. Fun rock formations at the top, shaded forest paths, and big views make this one a favorite for older kids. The climb is steady but manageable, and the scenery keeps everyone engaged the whole way up.

Rainbow Gulch Trail

This easy 3 mile out-and-back trail leads from the trailhead to Rampart Reservoir. It’s mostly shaded and has a wide, gentle path—great for families. Once you reach the reservoir, the trail continues so you can hike as far as you like before heading back to the trailhead.

Horsethief Falls

Near the town of Victor, this trail is around 2.5 miles round trip and offers a beautiful mix of forest and waterfall views. The trail has some incline but is manageable. In the summer, the shady trail and flowing falls at the end are a welcome reward. Bonus: you can extend your adventure to Pancake Rocks if your crew is up for a big hike!

Thomas Trail

This lesser-known trail is a gem tucked into the mountain town of Green Mountain Falls. It’s about 3 miles round trip and the majority is a forested trail that ends a fun waterfall. The small town vibe and creek-side playground nearby make it a great day trip spot.

Paint Mines Interpretive Trail

This spot is out near Calhan, but the rock formations are like nothing else around. Kids love exploring the formations, and the loop is just under 2 miles.

Colorado Springs often sees afternoon thunderstorms. It’s best to hit the trails early in the day. Always check the forecast and turn around if clouds start rolling in.
