Visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park
Great Sand Dunes National Park is one of our favorite places in Colorado. We love to visit in early May when water is just starting to flow in Medano creek. My kiddos are 6 and 3. So just a few inches of water is perfect for them to play in. The current is strong and knocked my daughter over a few times but she loved it none the less. There is something so magical about watching a toddler splash and play in Medano Creek. We had planned to go last year but the park was closed due to the pandemic so we were all so very excited for this trip. Camping reservations fill up fast! We were only able to book the campground for one night but it ended up working out. The day we arrived we had amazing weather but that evening a storm rolled in and the next morning it was freezing. That is typical Colorado weather for you! Next year we hope to go for longer so we can hike up the dunes and explore more.

I love taking photos of my kids when we travel around Colorado. It is how I fell in love with photography in the first place. One day I would love to do a family or maternity session here but until then enjoy these photos of my kids. These are some of my favorite I’ve ever taken!
