Twin Lakes is one of my family’s favorite places in all of Colorado. Last summer we went on an amazing camping trip to Twin Lakes. I captured some of my favorite photos of my kids on that trip. There really is not a more perfect spot for family photos!
I love this spot for the epic mountain views and rocky shoreline. It is the perfect location for adventurous families. I like to think of my family sessions as more of an adventure than a photo shoot. We go on a short hike and stop for photos at various places along the way. At Twin Lakes, we start by hiking a trail that is set on a ridge above the lake. It over looks the lake and has amazing views of Mt. Elbert. Mt. Elbert is the highest peak in Colorado and a very popular ’14er to hike. After that, we hike down to the lake and finish the session on the rocky shoreline with that perfect golden light right before the sun dips behind the mountains.
The rocky shoreline is one of my favorite parts about this location. Kids of all ages love playing in the water, throwing rocks, and digging in the sand. Although chilly we even have the option to get in the water here. It provides so many opportunities to play and explore.
I can’t wait to take another trip to Twin Lakes this summer! My kids are looking forward to it even more than I am.
