The Top 5 Best Colorado Springs Photography Locations

Family Walking into sunset

Today I am sharing my favorite Colorado Springs photography locations. Many things go into what makes a location a great spot for photography. I love locations that feel adventurous, have plenty of space to explore and are not too crowded. The light is the most important thing to consider which is why you’ll see I have listed a best time of year for each location. As the light changes throughout the year it can make or break a location.

1. Garden of the Gods

For sure, this is the most popular location in Colorado Springs and for good reason. It is beautiful! I love the adventurous feel this location adds to a session. It is great for both maternity and family sessions alike. Kids love climbing the rocks and exploring.

Best time of year: This location is amazing year round for sunset sessions! The park is pretty big so even as the light shifts throughout the year, there is always a good spot to use.

2. Best Mountain Views in Colorado Springs

This location has some of the best mountain views Colorado Springs has to offer. It is a great location for a couples maternity session or a small family session. Although beautiful there is not a ton of room at this location for a large family.

Best time of year: Because of the light, this location is best for sunset sessions in fall, winter and early spring. In summer the sun sets in the north and this spot does not work well.

3. Grassy Meadow Surrounded by Mountains

The mountain views are really beautiful at this location! The grassy meadow is perfect for allowing families plenty of space to explore.

Best time of year: This location is best for summer and early fall. During winter, the sun sets in the wrong direction and this location does not work well during that time of year.

4. Mesa with Mountain Views and Rocky Cliffs

I love this location because it is really like two locations in one. The rocky cliffs are simply stunning at sunset and the mesa provides beautiful unobstructed mountain views. This kid friendly location is convenient to parking and stroller friendly.

Best time of year: Because this location is a wide open mesa, it works well any time of year. Although in summer with green grass is has a totally different look. Some years there are even sunflowers in late August.

5. Lake with a Rocky Beach

This location is a bit of a drive from Colorado Springs, but so worth it. It is about an hour south of town. The water and rocky shoreline offer many opportunities to play and explore. This spot is a favorite for kids!

Best time of year: The lake can be partially frozen in the winter. Therefore spring, summer and fall are the best times of year for this location. It is often about 10 degrees warmer here than it is in Colorado Springs, but it can often be windy!

✨ Propaganda I’m not falling for:
-Fall is the best season for family photos
-Photo sessions with toddlers are too stressful
-Golden hour is overrated
-Only big milestones are worth documenting
-You can't have fun AND get good photos

The truth:
🌼 Every season has its magic.
👣 Toddlers are chaos and joy wrapped in one.
📸 The everyday moments matter just as much as the big ones.
☀️ And golden hour? always worth it, even those late summer nights

What’s in my camera bag?
A little bit of gear… and a little bit of “just in case.” 😅📸

I come ready for anything a session throws our way—because when you’re wrangling toddlers, exploring and chasing the light, you got to be prepared!

Here’s what I never leave home without 👇
✔️ R5 + 28-70mm (my go-to)
✔️ 35mm lens
✔️ Backup camera + lens
✔️ Extra batteries + SD cards
✔️ Lens cleaning cloth
✔️ Camera toy for the littles
✔️ Hand sanitizer, band-aids, and trash bags (leave no trace and can protect my gear from rain!)
