A Playful Mountain Meadow Session with Two Little Girls
This was such a fun fall session. From the very beginning, we focused on play, connection, and simply enjoying the moment together. Instead of worrying about posing perfectly, this family leaned into the experience—and it made all the difference. We played games, explored the meadow, and let the girls be themselves. These are the kinds of moments that make candid fall family photos in Colorado Springs feel so special.

Letting Kids Lead the Moment
One of my favorite parts of any session is creating space for kids to just be kids. When they feel free to move, play, and interact naturally, everything changes.
Instead of asking for stiff poses, I guide families into simple prompts and let the kids take it from there. As a result, the energy stays light and fun. The girls in this session ran, twirled, and snuggled up with their parents—and those in-between moments became some of the best images.
When kids lead the moment, the photos feel effortless. That’s always the goal.

What Makes Candid Fall Family Photos in Colorado Springs Feel So Natural
Candid images often end up being the most meaningful photos in your gallery.
During my sessions, I focus on interaction over perfection. I’ll guide you into moments, but I won’t over-direct. Because of that, your photos will feel natural and relaxed.
You’re not just standing still—you’re moving, laughing, and connecting the whole time.

The Beauty of Golden Hour in the Fall
Golden hour in the fall is hard to beat. The light is soft and warm which creates that dreamy glow across the entire scene.
In this session, the golden light made the grass shimmer and added warmth to every image. It also softened skin tones and brought out those rich autumn colors in the landscape.
Because of this, timing your session around sunset is so important The light does so much of the work for you.

Outfit Choices That Brought This Session Together
This family absolutely nailed their outfits. They chose mostly neutral tones and added a few pops of warm, fall-inspired color. That balance keeps everything cohesive without feeling too heavy.
I always recommend avoiding overly saturated colors for fall sessions. Instead, stick with soft neutrals and mix in a few pops of color like rust, mustard, or deep reds. This keeps the focus on your connection rather than the clothing.
Another important factor is comfort. When outfits allow for movement, it becomes much easier to capture candid moments. This session is a perfect example of how thoughtful styling can pull everything together beautifully.

Why Movement Creates the Best Family Photos
Movement brings photos to life. It adds energy, emotion, and a sense of story to your images.
In this session, the girls twirled in the grass, ran toward their parents, and played freely. That movement created natural expressions and genuine moments that are hard to pose.

Planning Your Own Candid Fall Family Photos in Colorado Springs
One of the most common questions I get is when to book fall photos. While October is known for peak color, I personally love September sessions.
During September, locations are less crowded, the weather is usually warmer, and the scenery is still beautiful. It’s the perfect time for families with young kids.
When planning your session, think about outfits that allow you to move comfortably. Choose shoes you can walk and play in, especially if we’re exploring a meadow or trail. The more comfortable you feel, the more natural your photos will look.
When you keep things simple and stay flexible, your photos end up feeling more relaxed and real.
