Best Locations for Family Photos in Colorado Springs

We are so lucky to have so many beautiful spots to choose from, which is why finding the best locations for family photos in Colorado Springs can feel a little overwhelming. From bold red rock formations to sweeping mountain views and soft grassy meadows, there truly is something for every family and every style.

One of the best parts of booking a session with me is that I guide you through choosing the perfect location. Instead of guessing, you’ll get help selecting a spot that matches your vision and your family’s energy.

Garden of the Gods Family Photos (Iconic Red Rock Views)

Garden of the Gods is easily the most well-known photo location in Colorado Springs—and it absolutely lives up to the hype. The towering red rock formations paired with views of Pikes Peak create a dramatic and unforgettable backdrop.

Sunset is when this location really shines. As the light drops, the red rocks glow with warm tones while the mountains soften in the background. That combination creates images that feel vibrant, warm, and full of depth. Because of this, it’s a favorite for both local families and visitors wanting that classic Colorado look.

What to expect at Garden of the Gods

Since Garden of the Gods is a popular tourist destination, it can get busy. However, I use specific spots that are tucked away from the main crowds. These hidden areas allow us to capture beautiful images without distractions.

That said, these locations do require a short walk. The trails can be uphill and a bit rocky in places. While the hike is manageable for most families, it’s important to come prepared with comfortable shoes and a willingness for a little adventure. The views at the top are always worth it.

Blodgett Open Space

Blodgett Open Space is one of my favorite mountain-view locations in Colorado Springs. It offers a perfect mix of wide open views and more intimate, tree-lined areas.

Because of this variety, it works beautifully for families who want both scenic mountain backdrops and softer, nature-filled moments. The lighting here is especially pretty in the evening, giving your photos a warm and golden feel.

North Cheyenne Canon

North Cheyenne Canon is ideal for families who want a more playful and adventurous session. This location has an open meadow surrounded by mountains, which creates space for kids to run, explore, and just be themselves.

As a result, sessions here tend to feel very candid and movement-focused. It’s perfect if you love natural interactions, laughter, and storytelling images rather than posed portraits.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park

Cheyenne Mountain State Park is a great option if you’re looking for beautiful views without a lot of walking. The mountain backdrop is stunning, and many areas are easily accessible.

Because of this, it’s a great fit for families with young kids, grandparents, or anyone who prefers an easy access location. You still get gorgeous Colorado scenery, but with a much easier experience.

Palmer Park

Palmer Park is one of my personal favorite locations. It offers wide, open views of Pikes Peak from a distance, along with unique rock formations and natural textures.

This rocky location feels a little more quiet and less crowded, which makes it perfect for families who want a peaceful setting. The white rocks also gives your photos a light, airy feel.

How to Choose the Best Location for Your Family Photos in Colorado Springs

There are a few important factors to consider when choosing your location.

First, think about accessibility. Some spots require a short walk, while others are right next to the parking area. If convenience is important, we can choose a location that is easy to reach.

Next, consider your kids’ ages and personalities. Some locations are more adventurous and work best for older kids who enjoy exploring. Others are perfect for all ages and allow for a more relaxed experience.

Finally, think about the overall vibe you want. Whether you love bold red rocks, soft meadows, or mountain views, your location will help set the tone for your entire gallery.
