A Magical Winter Photo Session in Colorado Springs

Last week we had the most magical snow storm that covered the trees in a blanket of snow. I watched from the window and saw the perfect pocket of light streaming through the trees. After noticing the light, I took my daughter outside for a winter photo session to capture these magical photos.

As a photographer there is nothing more special than capturing the joy of childhood. One of my favorite images from this session was when Ella was throwing snow into the air and giggling with delight. This photo captures the magic of snow and childhood.

3 Tips for Winter Photo Sessions

Here are my top three tips for a successful winter photo session:

Make the session quick- These photos were taken in only 5 minutes. It was cold this day! Only 0 degrees when we went outside for these photos so I knew we had to be quick.
Plan your shots ahead of time- In order to make the most of your short time in the snow, plan it out ahead of time. I even had my daughter practice a few of the things I wanted her to do, like twirling and jumping in the air.
Dress warmly- Layers!! This really is the key to a successful winter photo session. Cute hats, gloves, and boots are a must. Zara kids is one of my favorites stores to shop at. They usually have lots of cute winter accessories. Ella is wearing a dress with a sweater over top and I love how the layers look together. She is also wearing base layer pants under her tights, which is a great way to add extra warmth. The unzipped coats lets us see her cute outfit but also helps keep her warm.
