Everything came together beautifully for these family photos at Cheyenne Mountain. The location, the outfits, and the energy from this sweet family all worked so well. We did have to reschedule a couple of times, which just happens and is not a problem. But in the end, it worked out perfectly. We landed on a beautiful evening with warm light and calm weather.

A Golden Hour Evening at Cheyenne Mountain State Park
The light at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in the fall is so good and that makes all the difference in your photos.
During this time of year, the sun sets just south of the mountain. That creates beautiful light that is filtered through the trees. This kind of golden hour is exactly what makes fall family photos at Cheyenne Mountain stand out.

What I love About Family Photos at Cheyenne Mountain
There are so many reasons I love this location, especially in the fall.
First, the light is consistently beautiful. Second, we have plenty of space to move and play. That makes a big difference, especially for families with young kids.
Instead of feeling restricted, your kids can explore, walk, and play. That freedom helps create more natural moments. It also keeps everyone more relaxed throughout the session.
This location is also easily accessible and is adjacent to parking. There is no hike required to get to these views!
Because of that, family photos at Cheyenne Mountain tend to feel easy and fun.

Western-Inspired Outfits That Brought This Session Together
The outfits in this session really pulled everything together.
The western-inspired look worked so well with the setting. Denim, boots, and soft neutral tones always photograph beautifully in this kind of landscape.
And yes, I have to mention mom’s dress—it’s from my client closet and has been such a favorite. It’s one of those pieces that works across seasons and always looks good on camera.
When styling for family photos at Cheyenne Mountain, choosing outfits that match the setting makes everything feel cohesive.

Candid Moments Over Perfect Posing
This session had so many fun, candid moments. Their toddler brought a ton of energy, which kept things moving the entire time. While that can feel a little chaotic in the moment, it almost always leads to the best photos.
Instead of trying to control every movement, we leaned into it. We focused on interaction, movement, and connection. That’s what helped create a gallery full of variety that feels real and relaxed.
