Photo session weather in Colorado can be difficult to predict, especially here in Colorado Springs. One minute it’s sunny, and the next a storm rolls in. Because of that, flexibility is a big part of planning any outdoor session.
My goal is always to give you the best possible conditions for your photos. While some weather can actually be beautiful, other conditions just don’t work well. Knowing what to expect ahead of time helps take the stress out of the process.

Colorado Photo Session Weather Is Unpredictable (And That’s Okay)
Weather in Colorado Springs often changes quickly, which means we sometimes need to stay flexible or even make last-minute adjustments.
Because of that, I always keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to your session. However, we often won’t know exactly what the weather will do until a couple hours before. If conditions aren’t ideal, I’ll always talk through options with you so we can decide what feels best.
At the end of the day, I want you to have photos you truly love—even if that means choosing a different day.

Do We Reschedule or Still Shoot?
This really depends on the conditions.
Cloudy weather is not a problem at all. In fact, it often creates soft, even light that photographs beautifully. However, if you’re hoping for that warm golden hour glow, we can always reschedule to aim for better light.
On the other hand, heavy thunderstorms are a different story. They can be unsafe, especially at locations like Garden of the Gods. Dark storm clouds that completely cover the mountains also take away from the overall look of your photos. If there are heavy thunderstorms forecasted for the time of your sessions, I’ll usually recommend we reschedule.
Partly cloudy skies, though, are often ideal. They add texture to the sky while still allowing for great light. This is my favorite condition to shoot in.

Why Cloudy Weather Can Be Perfect for Photos
Cloudy weather creates soft, diffused light, which is very flattering. It reduces harsh shadows and helps keep skin tones even.
That said, I personally love golden hour light and the warmth it brings to your images. If that look is important to you, just let me know when planning your session. We can always reschedule for golden light.

Light Rain vs Heavy Rain (What’s the Plan?)
Light rain doesn’t always mean we have to cancel. In some cases, we can still move forward if it’s safe and manageable.
However, if the rain becomes steady or heavy, we’ll need to stop or reschedule. I have to protect my gear, and your comfort matters too. No one enjoys a session in pouring rain.

Backup Plans for Outdoor Photo Sessions
I always leave room in my schedule for weather-related changes.
If you’re visiting Colorado Springs, I recommend scheduling your session toward the beginning of your trip. This gives us flexibility in case we need to shift your date due to weather.
Having that extra buffer makes the whole experience feel much more relaxed.

How I Help You Plan Around Weather
I keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to your session. I typically check a few days in advance, then again the morning and afternoon of your session.
Living and working here, I’ve learned how quickly photo session weather in Colorado Springs can change. It honestly feels like being a part-time weatherman some days.
Because of that, I’ll always keep you updated and help guide the decision if weather becomes a concern.

Tips for Staying Stress-Free About Photo Session Weather in Colorado
The biggest thing to remember is that we can’t control the weather.
What we can do is stay flexible and focus on making the best decision with the information we have. I’ll always do my best to read the conditions and guide you, but sometimes weather surprises us.
Staying relaxed and open to adjustments makes the process much easier—and helps ensure you end up with photos you love.
