With colorful trees, mountain views, and sunny days, fall is one of the best seasons to capture your family’s love and connection.
Whether you’re planning ahead or squeezing in a last-minute session, here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your fall family photos.
When Is the Best Time to Book for Peak Fall Foliage in Colorado Springs?

The fall colors in Colorado Springs are most stunning in October. Early October brings yellows and softer hues of fall, while mid October is when the deeper tones of orange and red really shine. Timing can vary slightly depending on the year, but October is always your best bet for peak fall foliage in Colorado Springs.
If you’re hoping for a weekend date, be sure to book early—fall is one of the busiest times for family photographers!
My Favorite Locations with Beautiful Fall Foliage in Colorado Springs

Palmer Park
One of the most unique fall photo spots in town. The white rock formations contrast beautifully with subtle fall colors nearby. There’s also a little spot with full fall foliage just a short walk away—perfect for variety in your gallery
Cheyenne Mountain State Park
A little later to turn, this spot hits peak color around mid to late October. The mix of trees and wide open views of the mountains make it a client favorite year after year.
Blodgett Open Space
This beautiful location offers golden trees and mountain views, with a forest path that absolutely glows in October. It’s peaceful, scenic, and perfect for candid family shots. This spot also turns a little later than the rest of Colorado Springs.
What to Wear for Family Photos with Fall Foliage in Colorado Springs

Outfit planning can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Stick to warm colors and lots of neutrals that complement the autumn colors—think rust, tan, and cream. Avoid wearing lots of dark colors.
To make things even easier, I offer a client closet full of photo-ready dresses for moms and stylish options for babies and toddlers—all available at no extra cost.
How to Prepare Your Kids for a Fall Photo Session

Getting little ones ready for photos doesn’t mean rehearsing stiff smiles. Tell your kids you’re going on a fun little adventure to take lots of photos! Let them know we’ll be playing games like red light, green light, and ring-around-the-rosie.
Keeping the mood playful makes it easy to capture real moments and genuine smiles.
What to Expect During Your Fall Family Session

A family photo session is more than just posing for the camera—it’s about connection. We’ll move, explore, and laugh. I’ll guide you through some prompts and games, with a few classic poses sprinkled in.
You don’t need to worry about “getting the perfect shot.” Just show up ready to love on your people and I’ll take care of the rest.
After your session, you can expect a curated gallery full of beautiful photos from your sessions and memories from a fun evening with your family
Tips for Natural, Candid Photos with Kids

The key to great photos? Let go of the pressure. If your child isn’t following directions, that’s okay. I’m looking to capture joy and connection—not perfection.
Try to avoid correcting your children during the session (unless safety is an issue). When parents stay calm and present, kids tend to do the same.
How Weather Impacts Fall Sessions

Fall in Colorado Springs is usually beautiful and sunny, but evenings can get chilly fast—especially by late October. Bring layers for everyone, just in case. If you have young kids or babies, I recommend booking earlier in the season before temperatures drop.
We rarely see rain this time of year, but I always keep an eye on the forecast and have backup plans in place if needed.
