Colorado Springs is a photographer’s dream. Its breathtaking landscape, with the iconic Pikes Peak as the centerpiece, provides a stunning backdrop for capturing family memories. Summer days in Colorado Springs are a beautiful blend of radiant sunshine, refreshing breezes, and the kind of picturesque scenery that photographers dream about. As a local photographer, I often find myself captivated by this incredible backdrop and can’t help but feel grateful to capture its beauty in my work. Today, I’m thrilled to share with you a Colorado Springs summer photo session that captures a sun-soaked family adventure.
A Colorado Springs Summer Photo Session
Our chosen location for this session was a beautiful grassy mesa, that has some of the most beautiful sunsets in the Colorado Springs area. This is one of my favorite summer locations because of the tall green grass, sunflowers, and epic sunsets. These elements created an ideal location for our sun-chasing adventure. As golden hour approached, the landscape turned a golden hue, casting a beautiful warm glow on the family.
Capturing Family Memories
This was my second time capturing photos for this family! I wanted to create a relaxed session that captured their playfulness and unique personalities. This family is so much fun to photograph. They are naturals in front of the camera. The little girl was still a baby last we did photos and it was so fun to capture her personality this time!
Chasing Golden Hour
Golden hour—the short period just before sunset—provides soft, warm, and diffuse light that’s perfect for photography. I time my sessions carefully, aiming for those moments when the sun bathes everything in a magical, golden glow. As we explored the area, it felt as if we were literally chasing the sun, rushing to capture as many moments as possible before it dipped below the horizon.
Capturing Spontaneous Moments
Some of my favorite photos from this session are of the family playing together. These spontaneous moments—sometimes unplanned and unexpected—are the heart and soul of a meaningful family photo session.
